With the chilly season well upon Sydney, it seems like the best time to have a mug of hot chocolate and snuggle by the fireplace…but who can resist staying at home where there’s plenty of festivities happening outside? We love that Sydney has so many ongoing events in winter to keep us occupied, whether day or night, so we say – take your pick of whatever tickles you fancy! Here’s our top 4 picks:
1. Game of Thrones Exhibition – www.mca.com.au
“Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder.” Sound familiar? With the “Game of Thrones” pandemonia well and truly upon us, it would only make perfect sense to have a free exhibition here in Sydney. Located in the Museum of Contemporary Art, you will have the chance to see the coveted chair, along with armour, costumes, maps, model dragons and even House banners. They provide you all the gadgets, so you better put on your best pouty Jon Snow face! Be sure not to miss out as the exhibition only runs for a limited time from July 1st to July 5th. Word of advice – it’s best to queue up early with people lining up for over 6 hours to get a taste of this virtual-reality experience.
2. Bondi Winter Magic Ice Rink – www.bondwintermagic.org.au
Get ready and pop those skates on your feet! If you’re missing the snow, then Bondi’s Winter Magic Ice Rink is a fantastic activity to fill that void. This event comes at a suitable time, particularly for kids – as the school holidays has just started! We love that IcePals Penguins for available for rent – this is great for all little ones learning to skate. Take your pick between skating in the sun or after dark during 45 minute sessions which run daily from 10am-9pm at Bondi Pavilion. Not only is there fun on the rink, but Bondi’s Winter Magic Festival also offers markets, dining offers and even organised winter coastal walks.
3.The Rocks Aroma Festival – www.therocks.com
The right coffee can truly be the wake up call you need on a bustling work morning. If you’re a coffee lover and looking for something to do on Sunday, the 27th of July, then The Rocks Aroma Festival will be just for you! This festival is the city’s biggest celebration of the pleasant aromatic black coffee. Leading up to the event, as part of NAIDOC Week, there will be free tucker talks in the pop-up garden area at the Rocks Square, with historic cafe tours of the area and a range of workshops created in association with the Australasian Speciality Coffee Association (AASCA). The main event will have 65 stalls from a range of local roasters, tea specialists and food outlets. It is free and will run from 10am-5pm.
4. Ignite Sydney 12 – www.ignitesydney.com/
If you had 5 minutes on stage what would you say? What if you only got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds? Intriguing right? Around the world geeks have been putting together Ignite nights to enlighten us – quickly. Ignite Sydney is where you can mingle, chill out, have a beer and be inspired by smartypants people. It is all about making the slides dynamic and exciting, and forcing the presenters to think about what they show. We can’t think of a better get together with friends after a long day at work. What’s even better is that all the profits from their ticket sales goes towards a chosen charity. Ignite Sydney 12 is held on Wednesday, the 16th of July at 6pm at the Oxford Art Factory.
Here at WordStorm PR, we’ll be definitely exploring the fun that Sydney has to offer for these 3 months!
