Why did you take an internship with WordStorm PR?

As my first internship, I figured a small close-knit firm like WordStorm would be best to start off and learn skills from, making it easier to build interaction skills in an office space as well. The clients were appealing because most of the consumer/lifestyle brands are something I use and can relate to. Not to mention it’s in a great location close to everything you need!

What’s been your favourite part about working in PR?

I’ve enjoyed the constant interaction we need to keep with clients and the media- so the creative send-outs and content strategies are my favourite. I’ve also learnt a lot about each brand we work with and the wide range of media publications we work with- I didn’t realise there were so many.

How do you think an internship will help with you getting a job when you finish your uni degree?

With an internship I’ve now learnt so many skills I wouldn’t otherwise- like talking on the phone, writing skills and language needed for media releases and familiarising myself with databases and contacts. It has also given me experience in how to be professional during interviews and around the office as well- anything from how I dress to how I write my emails.

What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learnt since working at WordStorm PR?

I think paying attention to detail and editing is something really valuable to remember. This makes all the smaller tasks along the way much easier if everything is accurate to save time. It’s also really important to keep good communication skills with everyone in the office- this job is all about creative ideas and being able to share it.

What’s your least favourite task as an intern?

Calling up others to ask for their details- it’s something we all need to practice, but it can be nerve-racking when the other person simply isn’t interested!

What’s your favourite thing to do in Sydney?

I’ve always been an outdoor person- so a nice day having lunch or coffee around Sydney Harbour by the waterside is my favourite, as well as getting dressed up to try different restaurants and bars around the city.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

I love to travel- and everywhere I go I seem to always collect an anklet or bracelet from that place…my jewellery collection is definitely not small.

What is your fave social media platform?

I use Facebook the most because you can do almost everything on there, but I’ve recently joined Instagram and I think I’m in love- it’s different, no words, just pictures to keep you entertained (and playing around with all the filters is addictive).
