How to use PR to take your SEO strategy to a whole new level

My name is Monica Rosenfeld and I’m a professional speaker and an expert in media relations. In today’s video I’m going to show you how to take your mainstream media coverage and use it to take your SEO strategy to a whole new level.

This technique could literally shave months of getting your website onto that all important front page when your target customer is looking for the product or service that you provide. My friend Dean Salakas from The Party People has coined the term ‘PR is the new SEO’ and he used this strategy to very very effectively. So how does media coverage help your SEO rankings? Well when a website such as news.com.au, Daily Mail, SMH.com.au or any other mainstream media site features an article about you and includes a back-link, your page ranking immediately increases.

The reason for this is that media websites have a very high page ranking. So when they give a back-link to your site within their site, Google recognises this, sees that your website is extremely relevant and elevates your rankings there and then. Sometimes journalists will write a story about our clients and they haven’t included a back-link but what we do then is we just very politely ask the journalists if they wouldn’t mind doing this and occasionally we’ll get a no, but very often journalists will help us out and will put a back-link in the story. It’s always worth asking the question because if you can get those back-links it’s extremely valuable and this is how PR is a really valuable part of your SEO strategy.
