A Day In The Life Of An Intern – Yasmin

I have been interning at WordStorm PR for nearly a month now and it has already given me a glimpse at what a career in Public Relations would look like. After studying communications at university for 3 years, I was eager to put what I studied into practice.

After experiencing fashion PR last year, I knew that it wasn’t for me. It led me to apply for different PR agencies and explore other working environments. I am lucky to have found WordStorm, as they are a friendly group of people who are passionate about what they do. I learn from them every day and regularly receive guidance on tasks I may find challenging.

Mastering the Art of Multi-Tasking

Some of the tasks I have completed whilst at WS are reporting daily news, updating clipping summaries for clients and searching for influencers. What I love about interning at WordStorm is that I am constantly learning new terms or tasks of PR. For example, I was not aware what EAV meant before I came to WS, or the fact that pitching is a usual occurrence in a PR office. This is why it is important to intern, as you would experience what a real PR company goes through on a daily basis.

Expanding My Horizons

University does not teach you the things you learn at PR office, and interning becomes a major eye-opener for what your future could entail. It is not all glamorous like Hollywood makes it appear. Samantha Jones from Sex and the City makes it seem as though PR is all about parties and events, however you soon find out that it is not – but, you learn that it doesn’t need to be about that. Particularly, I find that working with non-profit organisations is a rewarding experience that is more beneficial than going to parties or events.

I still have two more months to go at Wordstorm and I look forward to what I will learn next!
