My name is Monica Rosenfeld. I’m a professional speaker and the founder of WordStorm PR. And today I’m going to be talking about how imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from putting themselves forward to becoming that go to media expert for their industry.
Time and time again, professionals like you are missing out on credibility raising media opportunities because perhaps you think you’re just not significant enough to be interviewed in a high profile media outlet. Many people think that only well-known people get this privilege but that’s just not true. Those spokespeople that you see time and time again, interviewed in the media got there initially by putting themselves forward. They let journalists know that they had this expertise and showed journalists why their audience would want to know about it. Then they proved that they were good media talent which meant that they can hold down a good conversation, that they truly are experts in their field and they prioritize their time so that when media came to them wanting to interview them they ensure that they were there and reliable and available.
So you’re all experts in your field and I’m sure you will have great nuggets to share with an audience of mass media outlets. I would suggest that you put the imposter syndrome behind you and put yourselves forward. Journalists are thirsty for content they’ve got air time to fill, they’ve got space to fill and they’re looking for spokespeople on a regular basis to talk about a wide range of topics. You could be that spokesperson it’s just a matter of putting yourself out there.
